Christmas Lights for Emporia, KS Homes

Who did the Emporia Gazette write about for holiday lights?

The Emporia Gazette ran a feature on RM Lighting Solutions owner Ray Mendoza titled “Holiday Lighting Company Helping Emporia Residents Brighten the Holidays.” It covered the work he has done across Emporia, Topeka and Lawrence. We install Christmas lights on Emporia homes and businesses from our base in Topeka. Call (785) 554-8293 to reach Ray.

A few things Ray said in that article are worth repeating here, because they are how we actually work. If a bulb goes out, he fixes it within 24 hours. The materials are commercial-grade and custom-cut to each house. Warm white, he said, never goes out of fashion. On safety, he put it plainly. “Let the professionals get on the roof.”

Why does it matter that the installer is a roofer?

It matters because a holiday light install happens on top of your roof, and a roofer knows how to work up there without breaking anything. Ray Mendoza has roofed for 9 going on 10 years, his father roofs, and he has handled more than $10 million in exterior projects. He started RM Lighting in 2025 because he was already on roofs every day.

A lot of Emporia’s older houses sit near downtown and around Emporia State, brick and frame homes with steep gables and shingles that have seen plenty of summers. Old shingles crack if you step on them wrong. Gutters on older homes are not always fastened the way they should be. Ray looks at that before any clip goes on, and if something on the roof needs attention, he will tell you. Dale Cox, a Google reviewer, had Ray patch and repair his roof during his light install.

Out on the newer side of town, ranch homes have long, low rooflines. Those look great with one even row of C9 bulbs.

The look Ray hears asked for most in Emporia is the one he described to the Gazette, a clean and symmetrical roofline in warm white. Icicle strands were the thing for years. Now most people want the house outlined, the peaks crisp and the corners lined up, and that only works when every strand is cut to the right length.

What can you light on an Emporia property?

We light rooflines first, since that is what most Emporia homeowners want, using warm white C9 LED bulbs on strands cut to the exact length of each run. Beyond the roof we can wrap trees and light landscaping, hang wreaths and garland around the front door, or install permanent lighting that stays up year round. The residential lighting page shows what goes into a home install.

Businesses along Commercial Street and around town can get the same treatment on a storefront or office. Those details live on the commercial holiday lighting page.

Emporia is wind country. You feel it coming off the Flint Hills, and it pulls at anything that is loose. Professional clips hold strands tight to the shingle edge or gutter, and a timer turns everything on at dusk so you never have to think about it.

What happens after Christmas?

After Christmas, an Emporia customer on our seasonal lease does nothing at all. The lease covers the design, the install, upkeep through the season, a scheduled takedown and storage until next fall. You never buy the lights, never untangle them and never climb for them. When the next season comes around, they go back up.

That care is a big reason the lights hold up. Ray told the Gazette a good system can last up to ten seasons when it is looked after, and looking after it is our job.

How do Emporia homeowners get a price?

Send your address through our contact form or call (785) 554-8293, Monday through Saturday, 8 to 6. We measure your roofline from satellite imagery, so we usually do not have to drive down to quote it. Within 1 to 2 hours you will typically have an interactive proposal with a free mockup of your house and three packages, Good, Better and Best.

The minimum job is $500. A $100 deposit holds your install date, and seasonal installs start October 1. See the pricing page for how the packages differ.

We are based in Topeka and also light homes in Lawrence. Fully insured, with a 5.0 rating on Google from 19 reviews.
